Can Venmo be used without a phone number? No

When you create a Venmo account, you need to sign up with your phone number. Whether you choose a personal or business account, Venmo will always need your phone number, which you should verify immediately. Although you cannot circumvent this policy, there is a way to sign up for Venmo with a fake phone number.

In this guide, we'll explain how to create a Venmo account without disclosing your real phone number. If you want to create a second account on the same device, this method will also work.

Will using a toll-free number work?

The most popular way to avoid the policy of saving phone numbers is to buy a burner phone – a prepaid mobile phone that you can throw away when you're done using it. Although a burner phone allows you to sign up for various services and apps, it expires after a few months. It can also be expensive.

Another commonly used method is to search for random fake phone numbers on Google. While this method is quick and convenient, it may not work for all apps and services you want to sign up for.

There is an easier way to bypass Venmo's phone number requirement. A great app you can use for this is Don't Pay. This app works like a burner phone because it provides you with a fake phone number that you can use to create a Venmo account.

Not only can you use this app for Venmo, but also any other app that requires you to provide your phone number. It basically generates a temporary phone number that expires after it is used. Here's how you can use it to create a Venmo account:

  1. Sign up for Do Not Pay in your browser. You can use your email address or your phone number.
  2. Select the “Phone Burner” tab.
  3. Type "Venmo" when asked which app requires your phone number.
  4. Press the "Create a temporary number" button.

You will get a temporary phone number that you can use for 10 minutes. Here's what you need to do next:

  1. Open the Venmo app on your phone.
  2. Enter your e-mail adress.
  3. Enter your temporary phone number.
  4. Create a password.
  5. Check the phone number on the DoNotPay app.

After your temporary phone number expires, you will no longer be able to use it. However, as you have already checked, you will not need it. DoNotPay will generate temporary phone numbers several times a month, in case you want to sign up for another app or service.

You can also use the Receive SMS website if you don't want to provide your real number. This service is completely free and allows you to receive text messages and voice messages online. What is also great about this website is that it can receive messages from all over the world. There is also no limit to the number of messages you can receive daily.

Using this website is relatively simple. Here's how you can use it to receive a verification text from Venmo:

  1. Go to the Receive SMS website.
  2. Scroll down to find a number for your country.

Notes: Since Venmo only works in the US, you need to find a US number.
  3. Click the "Open" button when choosing a number.
  4. Use the temporary number to sign up for Venmo.

Once Venmo sends a verification code to the temporary phone number, you will receive it on the Receive SMS website. Make sure to refresh the page until you receive the message.

If you scroll down the temporary phone number detail page, you will see a list of the last 50 messages your fake number has received. Additionally, you will see the content of each message (e.g. "WhatsApp Code 401-572."). While this feature is very useful, remember that the message you receive from Venmo will be on this list. Therefore, the next person using the same temporary phone number as you will be able to see the message.

Can you have two Venmo accounts with the same phone number?

Although Venmo does not allow you to have two accounts with the same phone number, you can work around this problem by using the temporary phone number method. You can use either of the two services mentioned in the previous section – the DoNotPay app or the Receive SMS website.

However, you also need to have two separate email addresses for two Venmo accounts. If you already have two or more email addresses, you won't need to take any further action. If you only have one, just create another email address. You can register two email addresses on the same phone number.

In terms of bank accounts, having two Venmo accounts is very useful when you have two bank accounts. You can use the Venmo app to transfer money between accounts. But what about a joint bank account? Venmo actually allows two Venmo users to register the same bank account. Just keep in mind that only two Venmo accounts can have the same registered bank account. No more than that will be allowed.

Protect your privacy when signing up for Venmo

Although you must provide a phone number when you sign up for your Venmo account, it doesn't have to be your phone number. There are several ways to circumvent Venmo's phone recording policy. You can get a burner phone, google fake numbers, or use an app that will generate a temporary phone number for you.
