How to Add and Remove People from Snapchat Groups

Like many other messaging platforms, Snapchat includes group chats. These group chats are convenient and unique because of Snapchat's specific messaging features. But what if you want to add or remove people from your Snapchat group?

Fortunately, this can be done by following a few steps and methods. In this article, we'll walk you through the steps needed to add and remove people from your Snapchat groups using different devices.

On an iPhone

Groups are a relatively new feature introduced by Snapchat. Users can now create groups of up to 31 people to share moments and stay connected. You can add people to your group chat when creating a group. Luckily, it's pretty simple when you're using an iPhone. Here's how it's done:

1. Open the Snapchat app.
   
2. In the lower right corner of the chat screen, click the new chat icon.
   
3. Add as many friends as you want to the group – a maximum of 31. You can only add users who are already on your Snapchat friends list.
   
4. Give your group a name.
   

You can also add people to your group later by editing the group. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Go to the camera screen and click on the chat icon at the bottom left.
   
2. At this point, long press on the group chat.
3. In the menu that appears, select “More”.
   
4. To add members to a group, click “Add members to group”.
   
5. Now choose the users you want to add to your group.
   

You can see all users who are currently in your group by visiting group settings. To view all group members, tap the menu icon in the top left corner. It will appear as the avatar of the first party member, along with the name of the party. Additionally, you can see who's currently active in the party by looking just above your keypad on your phone.

Also, group chats you've added people to will be accessible on the friends screen by default. If you are unable to locate it, you can use the search option. A fun fact is that when you create or join a group chat, a group story is automatically generated.

When it comes to removing people from a Snapchat group, things aren't that simple. Currently, there is no option to delete someone directly. However, you can do several things.

Create a new group

You can always form a new group with everyone except the user you want to remove. Then everyone in the new group can leave the original group, leaving the unwanted individual behind. It's somewhat passive-aggressive, but it may be the only choice if the individual refuses to go it alone.

Ask them to leave

The only way someone can be removed from a group directly is if the person in question leaves the group on their own. So, asking the person to leave the group is an option. However, you may want to avoid this as it can make the situation worse under certain circumstances. But if they're ready to leave, that solves the problem and allows you to keep the party alive.

Let the group expire

If no new snaps are added to the conversation, the group will automatically expire and disappear after 24 hours. Therefore, if you and other members choose to avoid a particular person in the group chat, you can sit and wait.

Block user

Blocking a user will remove them from the group but also from your friends list. The person will not be able to message you or access your account. To do this, go to the person's profile and click on the three vertical dots. A menu will appear and tap on “Block”, which will be written in red. You can later unblock the user, but they won't be your friend on Snapchat anymore unless you add them back.

On an Android device

The Snapchat app for Android devices is identical to the iOS app. So, the steps to add and remove people in your Snapchat groups will be similar.

To immediately add someone to a Snapchat group, follow these steps:

1. Launch the Snapchat app.
   
2. Click the New Chat button in the lower right corner of the chats window.
   
3. Add as many members as you want to the group – a maximum of 31. You can only add people who are already listed as friends on Snapchat.
   
4. Assign a name to your group.
   

Or if you already have a group and want to add someone, the steps are as follows:

1. Go to the chat icon at the bottom left.
   
2. Long press on group chat.
   
3. In the next menu, click on “More”.
   
4. Click "Add members to group" to add people to your group.
   
5. Select the people you want to add to your group.
   

There is also no direct way to remove someone from a group. You can only try one of the previously mentioned techniques, such as creating a new group, asking the user to leave, waiting for the group to expire, or blocking the user.

On an iPad

Since iPads and iPhones use the same operating system, the Snapchat app is similar for both devices. Therefore, the steps for removing and adding people to groups are also similar. Here are the steps to add someone to a new Snapchat group using an iPad:

1. Open the Snapchat app.
   
2. In the lower right corner of the chats window, tap the new chat button.
   
3. Create the group with as many members as you want – up to 31. You can only add people who have already been added as Snapchat friends.
   
4. Give your group a name.
   

Alternatively, if you currently have an existing group and want to add another member, follow these steps:

1. Tap the chat icon in the lower left corner of your screen.
   
2. Hold down the group chat icon.
3. Click "More" in the context menu.

To use Snapchat on a computer, you must first download an Android emulator. An Android emulator replicates the Android operating system, allowing you to download and use mobile apps from the Google Play Store.

Bluestacks is a well-known and perhaps the best optimized Android emulator that mimics the functionality of a real Android phone. So, here is how to download and install official Snapchat app for Windows using Bluestacks emulator.

1. Download and install Bluestacks emulator on your PC using .exe file.
   
2. Once Bluestacks is installed, sign in with your Google account.
   
3. Next, go to the Google Play Store and search for "Snapchat".
   
4. Download and install the app to start using Snapchat.
   

You need to log in to Snapchat first and then access the chat window the same way you would on a phone. The steps to add someone to a new group from here are similar to those for an Android device.

1. Click the New Chat button in the lower right corner of the chats window.
   
2. Add as many members as you want to the group – up to 31. You can only add Snapchat friends who have already been added.
   
3. Add a name to your group.
   

Or, if you already have a group and want to add another member, follow these steps:

1. In the bottom left corner, click the chat symbol.
   
2. Click and hold the group chat icon.
   
3. In the context menu, select "More".
   
4. Click "Add people" to add members to your group.
   
5. Select people to add to your group.
   

Likewise, there is no simple technique for removing group members. You can use any of the methods mentioned above, such as creating a new group, asking the user to leave, waiting for the group to expire, or blocking the user.

Keep your groups safe

Even though snapshots and chats disappear after 24 hours and you are notified if someone screenshots the chat, be careful when adding members to your group. Mainly because there is no easy way to remove someone from a group. Think about who you want to see you and your other friends and chats and who you want to be able to add to the conversation.

If someone is offensive or even insulting in the group and refuses to leave, the best solution may be to block that user. You can also report users and messages.
