How to Add Text in CapCut

CapCut started out as an app primarily focused on editing TikTok videos. It quickly became very popular. It is a user-friendly editing application with many options to cut and add different effects to videos.

Text is undoubtedly one of the most effective and widely used additions for short videos. If you're looking for ways to freshen up your recordings and make certain sections stand out, adding text might be what you need.

Luckily, CapCut was designed with text options in mind, making it easy to insert titles or comments. Here's how to add text to a video using CapCut.

How to Add Text to Video in CapCut on iPhone

The user interface of the CapCut application makes everything related to video editing much easier, regardless of the operating system. Follow this simple method to add text to your video using an iPhone:

  1. When you open a video with CapCut app, you will see the video preview, timeline and menu bar at the bottom. Tap "Text" to open the settings.
    • The available options are "Add Text", "Text Templates", "Auto Captions" and "Stickers". If you want to personalize your text as much as possible, choose "Add text". However, if you want a quick fix with fewer customization options, you can go to "Text Templates" and use one of the many pre-made animated texts. This method will focus on the “Add Text” option.
  2. Press the "Add Text" button to bring up a menu with multiple tabs where you can edit different aspects of your text. The text menu tabs are:
    • Keyboard
    • Style
    • Effects
    • Bulle
    • Animation
  3. Once the menu is displayed, it will default to the “Keyboard” tab. Here you can enter your text.
  4. Once you are done, switch to the next tab and the text will appear imposed on the video. The first time you see your text, it will appear in a simple style. To customize it further, go to the “Style” tab. There are three settings on this tab, and all of them are located on their individual ribbons:
    • The first ribbon contains fonts that you can choose by pressing one of the buttons showing a preview of the fonts.
    • The next ribbon has options for text borders, highlights, and backgrounds.
    • The third ribbon is the most complex as it includes detailed options related to text colors and effects. We will explain these options in the next step.
The third ribbon mentioned contains the most customization options that can make your text unique. These are:
    • Color – a simple parameter that adjusts the color of the letters. When the color is selected, an opacity slider appears below the color palette, allowing you to make the text more or less translucent.
    • Outline – controls the color of the outline.
    • Background – this option changes the background color. As with the "Color" menu, tap here to show the opacity slider.
    • Shadow – creates a colored shadow behind the letters. Once you have chosen the shadow color, you will see two additional sliders appear. One is, again, for opacity, while the other slider controls shadow blur.
    • Spacing – despite its name, this menu actually has nothing to do with color. Instead, you'll find various text alignment options here. The cool thing is that you can set the alignment to both a left-to-right and top-to-bottom axis. Below you will see two sliders, both of which affect text spacing.
    • Bold Italic – the final menu of this ribbon allows you to change your text to bold, italic or underline.
  5. When you are done customizing the text style, you can switch to the “Effects” tab and try some of the suggested solutions. The next "Bubble" tab contains optional text bubbles that you can add.
  6. Finally, the “Animation” section offers numerous text animations. You can choose a distinct animation as text enters and exits the frame, as well as a looping animation that will continue while the text is on screen.
  7. Once you are done setting up your text, tap the check mark on the right side and the text will be added to your video.

    • Keyboard

  7. Of the remaining tabs – which offer more customization in the form of various effects and text bubbles – the “Animation” tab is the most important. Choose between different text animations. These can be defined as entry, exit and loop animations.
  8. When you're done browsing the options, tap the checkmark to save the text and add it to your video.
