If you like listening to the radio while driving, SiriusXM probably sounded like a great option for you. And indeed, the broadcasting company provides more than 150 stations with a wide variety of content, including music, news and sports.
A very attractive aspect of this service is that it offers a free trial. However, once this period is over, you will have to opt for a subscription plan. Whether you did the free trial or now have a new car with the trial included, you may want to cancel SiriusXM before monthly billing begins.
Fortunately, there are several methods to cancel SiriusXM, by phone or online. In this article, we'll show you how to do just that.
For a long time, the only way to cancel SiriusXM was to make a phone call and speak to an agent. Today, the terms of the subscription plans on the official website still state that canceling the subscription will include calling the company.
These conditions only apply if you wish to cancel the satellite service. For online radio, the cancel options are much simpler.
SiriusXM recently introduced a chat option that allows users to have an online conversation with an agent. Here's how to enter this chat:
- Go to the SiriusXM website and log in to your account.
- Go to “Manage your account”.
- Look for the "Edit billing information" option and click on it.
- Go to "Cancel service". If you are canceling your subscription to the online radio service, you can complete the process at this point. To cancel satellite service, go to the next step.
- A pop-up window will appear with options to chat with an agent or call the business. Click on the highlighted text "Chat with an agent".
- A chatbot will present you with different options. When asked what you want to do with your account, type "cancel".
- You will be queued for a live chat with a SiriusXM agent. Once the conversation has started, you can negotiate to cancel your subscription or free trial.
It should be noted that the agent may offer you different subscription models instead of instant cancellation, usually at discounted prices. They'll probably also tell you to call the company if you're sure you want to cancel. Finally, the agent will inform you that your subscription will stop once the current billing cycle is over. However, there is a particular trick that could shorten the procedure.
Several users successfully canceled SiriusXM online without calling after telling the agent they were calling from California. Some of the users in question were not California residents, which was apparent from their billing addresses. Still, they managed to cancel SiriusXM via chat.
The reason behind this is a law that was passed in 2022. This law impacts companies that offer online registration for their subscriptions or free trials and forces customers to cancel the service through the same means as they signed up. In other words, if you got the trial online, you can also cancel it online.
The law in question is applicable exclusively to residents of California. However, simply declaring that you live in this state in chat seems to be effective in canceling SiriusXM.
A convenient alternative to the company chat or call could be to use the DoNotPay website. This site may automatically cancel your SiriusXM account, after which you will receive an email confirming the action.
For this method, you will need to follow these steps:
- Create an account on DoNotPay or log in. You should know that creating an account incurs an annual subscription fee of $36.
- Go to "Find Hidden Money".
- Enter "SiriusXM" in the field asking for the service name.
Once you complete these steps, the app will notify you when your account is terminated.
If you want to cancel SiriusXM Online Radio, you won't need to call the company. In contrast, canceling satellite service will require a phone call.
The number you will need to call is 1-888-539-7474. You will contact a company representative who will ask you the reason for your cancellation and offer any available solutions to the problem you are having. Please note that the agents are available between 8 a.m. and 23 p.m. every day except Sunday when you can reach them until 20 p.m.
Even if you only signed up for online radio, it might be a good idea to call the satellite company as well. In fact, even if you can cancel via chat but want to be sure the process is complete, it would be best to pick up the phone.
Note that agents will offer you special offers and deep discounts more often over the phone to keep you a customer, and you might end up choosing those options instead of canceling.
Once you have signed up for a free trial, SiriusXM will send you an email stating that the service will stop once the trial expires. If you received such an email, the only way you would be charged would be if you upgrade to a subscription plan before the trial period ends.
However, if you have been attracted by a special offer, such as a three-month subscription for a dollar, and have decided to sign up, you will be charged the price of regular service after the promotional period has expired. In this case, you will need to cancel the service before the end of this period to avoid being charged or continue your subscription at the regular price.
Depending on the SiriusXM service you signed up for, you may be able to cancel it online or via a phone call. Online radio can be canceled through the SiriusXM website, but you will need to chat or speak on the phone with an agent to cancel satellite service.
Online cancellation is relatively simple. Here is what you will need to do:
- Visit the SiriusXM website and connect.
- Go to “Manage your account”.
- Choose the "Edit billing information" option.
- Click on “Cancel service”.
If canceling your trial requires you to speak to an agent, you will be able to access the chat at this point. From there, you can discuss your options with a SiriusXM representative.
The other option is to call the company at 1-888-539-7474. This will allow you to speak to a live agent and confirm that you wish to cancel. The added benefit of phone calls is that you might receive a better option to continue your subscription.
Since many services allow quick cancellation through their apps or websites, SiriusXM may not be the easiest option out there. Depending on the type of service you signed up for, you may need to visit the company's site, chat with an agent, or even call them on the phone to cancel.
Of course, a direct conversation with a representative will not be as easy as canceling through an automated process. Live agents will usually try to convince customers to stay with the company and renew their subscriptions.
In some cases, this can be useful as they can come up with offers during the conversation. But if you are determined to cancel the service, the process will only be unnecessarily slow, with no benefits for either party.
When all is considered, canceling SiriusXM might be easier. Still, although it might take a bit of time, the option is at least easily accessible to all users.
Even though the service may seem great initially, you may want to cancel SiriusXM for a variety of reasons. Now that you know the different methods to achieve this, you can freely decide whether to keep or cancel the service.
