Plex is a model for how all home media centers should be, including being affordable (with premium options), well-designed, compatible with as many devices as possible, simple to set up, and easy to use. With both a free version and a premium version that only costs $4,99 per month, it's a very accessible way to access streaming media.
Either way, playlists are the modern mixtape, a way to line up an entire series of episodes, movies, or music tracks that can be played one after the other without any input. It's the ultimate in convenience and something most streaming apps have embraced, which is good news because we love them.
One of the coolest features is the ability to create playlists in Plex. If you want to watch a whole series of something, setting up a playlist makes it simple. Set it up, hit play and sit back and enjoy the show. Playlists can also work for music, providing hours and hours of seamless playback.
Plex has a good playlist feature that lets you create, edit, and delete playlists as needed. Once you know where to look and what to do, they are very simple to use.

Create Plex Playlists on Android
The process of adding playlists in Plex using Android is similar to that of PC and Mac. Here's how.
- Open Plex Media Player on your Android device.
- Connect using the appropriate channel.
- Select the first episode, audio track, or movie you want to include in your playlist.
- In the main overview window, select the playlist icon in the center. It looks like four lines with a small circle at the bottom left.
- Select Add to Playlist, Create New Playlist, and give your playlist a name.
- Go to the next content you want to add to your playlist.
- Select the playlist icon again in the main episode or track view.
- This time, select the playlist you just created rather than creating a new one. The item will appear under your first selection in the playlist.
- Rinse and repeat for as many items as you want in your playlist.
Once done, you can stream your playlist in order or shuffle them as you see fit.
- Select Main Navigation in Plex Media Player.
- Select Playlists, then select the desired playlist.
- Select the play button at the top of the playlist content window.
To shuffle your playlist:
- Select Main Navigation in Plex Media Player.
- Select Playlists, then select the desired playlist.
- Select the shuffle icon next to the play icon at the top of the playlist content window.

Manage your Plex Reading List
Once configured, your playlists are not frozen. You can change the media display order and add or remove media.
To change the reading order:
- Select Main Navigation in Plex Media Player.
- Select Playlists, then select the desired playlist.
- Select the two horizontal lines next to a title and drag it to a new position.
- Release to place the title in its new position.
It works for Android, on iPhone you have to swipe down at the top of the playlist window and select Edit. The end result, however, is the same.
To remove a track from your playlist:
- Select Playlists, then select the desired playlist.
- Select the title you want to delete, hold your finger on it and swipe right.
The title should now disappear from your list and the others will go up. On iPhone, you need to access this Edit menu again and select Delete, then OK.
Delete a playlist
If you've watched or listened to everything in a playlist, there's no need to keep it if you don't want to. Just delete it and create a new one.
- Select Playlists, then select the playlist you want to delete.
- Select the trash can icon at the top of the playlist window and select Delete.
If you're using an iPhone, you'll need to select this menu again by swiping down. This time, select Delete on the right of the panel to delete the playlist.
I'm sure there are plenty of other playlist tricks I haven't discovered yet, but these are the basics. There's everything the average Plex user should need to create and control their playlists.
