Commenting on Instagram posts is a great way to interact with the Instagram community. Instagrammers can ask questions, raise ideas and share opinions. But what if you notice a misspelling or an unclear sentence after posting? Although you can't edit the comments, the workaround will achieve the same result. Read on to find out what it is.
You cannot directly edit the comments you or someone else have made on your posts, but you can still achieve your goal.
To "edit" a comment you wrote on one of your articles, access the article from a browser, copy and paste the comment into a notes application to edit it, republish the edited version, and delete the old one.
To do this using your iPhone, follow the instructions below.
- Log into your Instagram account.
- Find the comment you want to edit.
- At the top right, tap the vertical three-dot icon.
- Select "Copy link".
- Quit Instagram to open a browser on your phone.
- Paste the link in the address bar to navigate there.
- At the top left of the browser, tap "AA".
- Tap “Website Settings” and turn on the “Request desktop website” toggle switch.
- Select "Done".
You will then be redirected to the desktop version of Instagram.
- To avoid prompts for the app version, tap "Login" to sign in to your account in the top navigation bar.
- Only a few comments will be displayed. Tap "Show all x comments" to see everything.
- Navigate to the comment you want to edit, then long-press it to get "Select All" and "Copy" options.
- Tap "Select All" to highlight the text, then tap "Copy." The text will be copied to your clipboard.
- Open a note app, then long-press anywhere on the page to get the "Paste" option.
- "Paste" the text, then edit the text.
- Once you're happy with the changes, select and copy the text to your clipboard.
To delete the old comment, do the following:
- Return to the post and comment in the Instagram app.
- Swipe left on the comment.
- Tap the white and red trash can icon to delete it.
- At the top of your screen, a red banner will appear confirming the deletion.
Then, to republish your edited version:
- Tap the text bubble icon under your photo or video.
- Press and hold in the text field.
- Press "Paste" to paste your edited comment from the clipboard.
- When you are satisfied with the text, press "Publish".
How to Edit Comments on Your Own Instagram Post on Android Device
To "edit" a comment you wrote on one of your posts, open the post in Google Chrome, copy and paste the comment into a note app to edit it, repost the new version, and delete the old one.
To do this using your Android device:
- Connect to Instagram through the app.
- Locate the comment you want to edit.
- Tap the vertical three-dot icon in the top right.
- Press "Copy link".
- Quit Instagram to open Chrome.
Once in Chrome or your browser of choice, follow these steps:
- Paste the link in the address bar to navigate there.
- Tap the vertical three-dot menu at the top right.
- Choose "Desktop site", you will be redirected to the desktop version of Instagram.
- To stop prompts to use the app version, tap "Login" in the top navigation bar to log in to your account.
- Not all comments will be displayed. To see them all, tap "Show all x comments".
- Navigate to the comment you want to edit, then press and hold to get the "Select All" and "Copy" options.
- Choose "Select All" to select the text, then press "Copy." The text will be copied to your clipboard.
- Open a note app, then press and hold anywhere on the page to get the "Paste" option.
- "Paste" the text, then edit the text.
- Once you have edited the text to your liking, select and copy the text to your clipboard.
To delete the old comment:
- Return to the comment in the Instagram app.
- Press and hold in the comment box.
- Tap the white and blue trash can icon to delete it.
- A red banner will appear to confirm the deletion.
Then, to republish your edited version:
- Select the text icon under your photo or video.
- In the text field, press and hold.
- Press "Paste" to paste your edited comment from the clipboard.
- If everything looks correct, press "Publish".
How to Edit Comments on Your Own Post in Instagram on PC
You can't edit comments you or someone else have made on your posts, but you can delete them directly from the desktop site.
Before you begin, please note that it takes several steps to "edit" comments on the platform. Here are the steps to edit comments on a PC:
- Go to Instagram.com and log into your account.
- Find the comment you want to edit.
- Highlight the text, right-click, and select "Copy." The text will be copied to your clipboard.
- To edit the comment, open a note app.
- Right-click and select "Paste" to edit the text in the note app.
- Once you're done, highlight the text, right-click, and select "Copy."
To delete the old comment:
- Find the old version of the commentary on the platform.
- Hover your mouse over it, then click the three-dot icon that appears to the right.
- Select "Delete" in the pop-up window.
To republish the edited version:
- Underneath the posts photo or video, right-click on the space that says “Add a comment…”
- Click "Paste" to add your edited comment from the clipboard.
- Once you are satisfied with the final comment, press "Publish".
Can I edit a comment I made on someone else's post?
Instagram does not allow you to edit a comment made on someone's post. However, you can delete a comment and re-post an edited version.
First, you'll need to access the comment through the desktop site because Instagram doesn't allow copying comments from the mobile app. Everything can be done using your mobile app. Here's how to make changes:
- Log into the Instagram app.
- Find the comment you want to edit.
- At the top right, tap the three-dot menu.
- Choose "Copy link".
- Quit Instagram to open a web browser, such as Safari or Google Chrome.
- Paste the link in the address bar.
From iPhone:
- Tap the "AA" at the top left of the browser.

From Android:
- Tap the three-dot menu icon at the top right.

- Find the comment you want to edit and hold it to get the "Select All" and "Copy" options.
- Tap "Select All" to select the text, then tap "Copy" to copy the text to your clipboard.
- Open a notes app and tap and hold anywhere on the page to get the "Paste" option.
- "Paste" the text, then edit it as desired.
- Once you're done, select and copy the text to your clipboard.
Now you need to delete the old comment:
- Return to the comment on Instagram.
- Long press the comment.
- (iPhone) Tap the white and red trash can icon.
(Android) Tap the white and blue trash can icon. - A red banner will appear to confirm the deletion.
To republish your edited version:
- Tap the text icon under your photo or video.
- Tap and hold the text field.
- Select "Paste" to paste your edited comment from the clipboard.
- Once you're happy with the comment, tap "Publish."
Can I edit someone else's comment?
Instagram does not allow Instagrammers to edit the posts of others. However, if the comment was made on one of your posts, you can delete it. Here's how to delete a comment from the mobile app:
- Log into your Instagram account and find the comment in question.

Refine your Instagram comments
Instagrammers are drawn to “The Gram” primarily for the stunning photography and video exhibits; to share and discuss. The comments section can be a space for interesting, entertaining, and possibly heated exchanges – among other uses.
