How to find your phone number in Android and iOS (iPhone)

Have you ever been asked for your number and you can't remember? Need to add your details to a form and can't remember your phone number? Did you add yourself as a contact on your phone to find your own phone number? I've done all of these things and I know I'm not alone. That's why I put this guide on how to find your phone number on Android and iOS.

There's nothing more embarrassing than having someone ask for your phone number so they can't remember it. Especially if you use your phone for business, it can seem incredibly unprofessional to come across your phone number. And for many of us with two phones, remembering a work number is certainly not easy.

It is possible to quickly recover your phone number in your phone on iOS and Android. We'll walk you through the steps and give you some additional tips below!

How to find your phone number in iOS

If you are an iPhone user, you are probably used to the simple layout and functionality of your device. Luckily, Apple has also made it incredibly easy to find your phone number.

If you open the phone app you can click 'Contacts' at the bottom of the screen. Then press 'My card' to display your phone number. But, in some cases, only your address and username appear. So, if this is the case for you, there is another surefire way to find your phone number.

Here's how:

Open the Settings app on your phone and scroll down to "Phone". Press it.

Then scroll a bit more until your phone number appears.

Now let's take it a step further and add your phone number to your contacts card if it's not readily available.

Here's how to add your phone number to your contact card on an iPhone:

Open the calling app on your phone and tap "Contacts" at the bottom. Then press "My card".

Next, tap on the “Edit” option in the upper right corner.

Enter your phone number and tap "Done" in the top right corner.

Now when you need to find your phone number, it will be listed right in your phone's contacts.

What to do if the wrong number appears

If your phone number appears but is incorrect, there could be several reasons for this, and therefore several solutions. It can be incredibly simple or more complicated depending on the cause of the error.

First, if you recently changed your phone number, phone, or mobile carrier, the likely cause is a carrier error. If you've changed your phone number, it will take some time for it to update on your phone (usually no more than a day). All you have to do is restart your phone and your new phone number should appear.

If you've changed carriers, your phone number goes through a porting process that can take a day or two. If you see a phone number you don't recognize, that's probably why.

If your number is wrong but you haven't made any changes to your account, contact your mobile carrier. You might need a new SIM card or there might be a problem with your account.

Lastly, many users who have noticed a problem with their phone number have solved it by going to 'Settings' > 'Messages' > 'iMessages' and turn iMessage off and then back on. This should refresh your phone and update your phone number.

How to find your phone number on Android

Finding your phone number on Android 10 is as easy as on iOS. But, if you are using an older version of Android, you need to follow additional steps.

First, try this:

  1. Open your phone and select Contacts.
  2. Select Me at the top of the list to see your number.

If you don't see Me in your contacts, you may need to dig a little deeper.

To try:

  1. Settings and About phone or About device.
  2. Select Status or Phone number or Identity.

Or:

  1. Settings and About phone or About device.
  2. Select Status and SIM status, then My phone number.

Your final option for finding your phone number in Android is to phone a friend. As long as they don't laugh at you too much, you can call them and then save your number somewhere or add it as instructed below.

Add your phone number – Android

You can easily add your phone number to your contacts by tapping the "Edit" button in your calling app as shown above. But what can you do if your phone number is not showing up at all?

Some users have reported that their phone number says "Unknown" in their phone settings. If this is happening to you, there are a few fixes.

First, try turning your phone off and on again. If that doesn't work, go to your phone's settings and follow the path 'Connections' > 'More connections' > 'Reset network settings'. Your phone will turn off and then back on, then the number should appear.

If that doesn't work, contact your carrier. Chances are you need a new SIM card.
