What do magic teapots and virtual video game tours have in common? They are both part of Genshin Impact's new housing feature, which was revealed to the gaming community with the 1.5 update in April 2022. With this new system, players can design their own homes, craft different items to decorate their personalized world space and open these realms for friendly visits.
Read on to find out how to unlock this unique feature and, of course, drop by your friends' teapots for a visit.
How to Join a Friends Teapot in Genshin Impact
The developers of miHoYo have done it again with another feature that has fans talking. Although the community was abuzz about the latest characters introduced in Update 1.5 and the re-release of the Zhongli Banner, one facet of the update took players by surprise – the housing system.
If you can't wait to see how your friends decorated their new world or show off your own, you're not alone. Learn everything you need to know to get started with this system and, most importantly, how to come see us.
Bases and access to the Serenitea pot
The Serenitea Teapot or Pot has become available to all players who have an Adventure Rating (AR) of 35 or higher and have completed a specific part of the Archon questline. Once you reach the required level and complete Act 1 Chapter 3, “A New Star Approaches,” you will see a new world quest available. The quest is called "A Teapot to Call Home" and Madam Ping in Liyue Harbor is the person to talk to about it.
Before you freak out, the quest to unlock the Serenitea Pot is relatively short and mostly involves going to different locations in the port. Once you complete this mini-quest, you will receive the Pot as a reward and effectively unlock the housing system. You will also receive your first set of furniture plans to decorate your new home.
Join a friend's kingdom
If you want to visit a friend's kingdom via Pot, the process is relatively simple. See the steps below to get started:
- Open your game menu.
- Select the "Friends" icon.
- Scroll through the list and find the friend you want to visit.
- Select your friend's avatar.
- Tap "Ask to Visit Serenitea Pot" from the list of drop-down menu options.
- Wait for your friend to accept or deny the visit request.
- When a friend accepts your request, you will be transported to their pot.
The good news is that your friend doesn't need to be inside their Serenitea potty when you want to visit them. They can adjust their realm settings to automatically accept or deny visit requests. If you want to pass on the information or edit your own presets, follow these steps:
- Open the Serenitea Pot kingdom map.
- Go to the icon on the right side of the screen to open a pop-up window. It's next to the "Close" icon.
- Scroll down the "Kingdom Guest" list and select "Serenitea Pot Permissions".
- Modify the request parameters if necessary.
The “Serenitea Pot Permissions” will give you three options:
- Join after approval
- Reject membership requests
- Allow direct join
The former option allows players to manually approve all visit requests, while the latter bypasses the approval process and grants instant access. These permissions do not affect your Home World, however. If friends want to enter your Teyvat card, you still need to grant per-visit access.
Since Teapot Rank and some Battlepass Weekly Tasks are dependent on Realm Visits, you may want to keep these direct permissions active; at least from Saturday to Monday, to help your friends.
One of the most common reasons for visiting a friend's kingdom is to shop. Chubby is a traveling Teapot Spirit Bird vendor who sells rare teapot products between Friday and Sunday. His unique decorative items make him a very popular guy every weekend.
However, it offers different items for each player. What you see for sale in your realm may not be the same as in a friend's realm, so it's a good idea to shop around on the weekends to see what it has to offer.
If you have a long list of friends and don't want to be tied to your game all weekend, it's also a good idea to enable direct visits. Your friends can visit your kingdom during shopping days to get rare decor, and I hope they will return the favor.
Remember, though, that Chubby only takes realm currency, so be sure to collect all available funds from Tubby the Teapot Spirit before venturing out on your retail expedition.
Buy it while you can
Seeing how friends have decorated their space kingdom is great conversation starter and inspiration. However, keep in mind that the inventory sold in a teapot kingdom is shared and in limited supply. If you or a friend purchase an item from the Realm Depot, it's listed as "Sold", so you can tell your friends first (or vice versa) before buying any decorations.
