How to Recover Deleted History in Google Chrome?
We have compiled a list of step-by-step methods that can help you recover your Chrome browsing history. Not all of them may work for you, so you should try each one. Hopefully one of these methods will do the job.
Check your Google account activity
Since you're using Google Chrome, you're probably signed into your Google Account at all times. If you check your browsing activity in your Google account, you will find the websites you have visited in the past.
Keep in mind that this process allows you to view your browsing activity. Any browsing history that you accidentally deleted will remain deleted from Google Chrome.
- Go to your Google Account.
- Click on Data & personalization in the vertical sidebar.
- In the Activity checks tab, click Web and App Activity.
- Now click on Manage activity.
The results are similar to your browsing history. In addition to visited web pages, you can also see the keywords you have used to search for in the past.
Notes: If the "Include Chrome history and activity from sites, apps, and devices that use Google services" setting on the Activity Controls is unchecked, you won't be able to access your Chrome history using this method.
Use the "Restore previous versions" option for your Google Folder
If you can't access your browsing history by checking your Google Account activity, you can restore your browsing activity in Windows Explorer.
- Open Windows Explorer and navigate to Local disk (C 🙂, the usual default location for app installs.
- Now open the Users folder.
- Then go to User. Note: Instead of User, you will see the PC user name.
- Then open the Application data folder, you may need to show your hidden folders to see it.
- Now navigate to ADDRESS.
- Then right click on the Google folder.
- From the context menu, select Properties.
- Click on the Previous versions tab in the dialog box.
- Select the previous version you want to restore and click Apply.
- Finally, click Okay.
You have now restored your browsing history to the previous version.
Use data recovery software
If you don't have a previous navigation version, you can recover it using a data recovery program. This method requires you to download and install a third-party app.
- Go to Recuva download page and click on the Download button to get the free version.
- Open the folder where you downloaded Recuva and start the installation.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- After installing Recuva, run the program.
- Select All the files then click Next.
- Select the specific location using this path: “C:UsersUserAppDataLocalGoogle. "
- Click on Next.
- Start recovery and wait for Recuva to recover deleted files.
- Select the files related to your browsing history and restore them.
How to use DNS cache to restore history?
Another way to restore your Google Chrome history is to restore the DNS cache in the command prompt.
- press the Windows key + R together to open the Run program, type "cmd", then click Okay.
- Now type “ipconfig/displaydns” and press Enter.
With this method, you will have access to your recent browsing history. A downside is that you can only see the domains you've visited, rather than the exact web pages.
However, if it is useful, you can save these entries as follows:
- Highlight the results you want to save with your cursor and press Ctrl + C to copy.
- Create a new Word or Notepad document and paste the results.
- Then press Ctrl + V to stick on.
