In today's business world, remote access has become as important as face-to-face contact. With this security concern in mind, the Splashtop remote desktop application allows users to access and control their desktop devices from anywhere – at the airport, on a train, wherever they be.
But as you might expect, there are issues with connecting the device you're using to one that may be hundreds of miles away. For example, problems that could be solved with a simple right mouse click can be a problem. In this guide, we'll show you how to right-click using Splashtop on a Mac or Android smartphone, or an iPad. Let's start by clicking.
How to Right Click in Splashtop from a Mac
If the host device you're accessing is a Windows computer, there are three options for right-clicking remotely from your Mac:
- Control-click. What right-click is for Windows, control-click is for Mac. To perform this action:
- Press and hold the Control (Ctrl) key.
- Click the Mac mouse to a characteristic button.
- Right-click on a Mac trackpad or Magic trackpad. Whether you're using a MacBook trackpad or a Magic trackpad, you can enable the secondary click preference:
- Go to the “Apple” menu at the top left of the screen.
- Choose "System Preferences".
- In the preferences panel, find the "Trackpad" icon and select it.
- Open the “Point and Click” tab.
- To enable 'Secondary Click', check the box next to it.
Tapping on the trackpad with two fingers is now equivalent to a right click.
- Right click on a magic mouse. You can also enable the preference that allows a right-click action on a Magic Mouse.
- Go to the “Apple” menu at the top left of the screen.
- Choose "System Preferences".
- When you have opened the preferences panel, find the "Mouse" icon and select it.
- Open the “Point and Click” tab.
- To enable 'Secondary Click', check the box next to it.
"Click on the right side" is the automatic setting. If you want, you can switch it to "Click on the left side".
How to Right Click in Splashtop from an iPhone
The first time you successfully connect to a Splashtop session through your iPhone, a "Tips" box will appear showing you how to perform various screen control actions. If you need a refresher, below is a rundown of how to perform the secondary click gesture.
On your iPhone, tapping replaces clicking. To perform the right-click action on your iPhone:
- Press and hold the screen with one finger. Make sure your finger stays there for at least a second.
- If done successfully, a menu with action options will appear.
- If the page starts to move a little, you may be moving your finger. Do not apply too much pressure on the screen and keep your finger as stable as possible.
How to Right Click in Splashtop from Android
Once your Android device successfully connects to a computer, you can start your first Splashtop session. You will see a "Tips" box that describes the screen control actions you can perform. With Android, there are two distinct modes:
1. Touch Mode
Touch mode allows you to touch your screen to perform functions and the same action will occur on the remote computer. When accessing a computer using an Android tablet or phone, touch mode is the default mode.

2. Mouse Mode
Mouse mode allows the Android device to act as a touchpad. An on-screen pointer will appear. Move it and initiate actions with your fingers. To perform an action:
- Use the touch screen to move the pointer to the desired position.
- Touch the screen with your finger to perform an action.
The action you performed on the Android device is replicated on the remote computer at the same pointer position.
How to switch between touch mode and mouse mode from the control menu bar
The control bar stores all advanced in-session controls. To use it to switch between touch mode and mouse mode:
- Look for the “<” icon at the bottom right of the screen. Select it to open the control menu bar.
- Choose the icon in the middle. It looks like a screen with the mouse pointer over it.
- The touch mode and mouse mode settings are at the top of the pop-up window. Tap the option you prefer to activate it.
How to Customize Mouse Mode and Touch Mode with Command Menu
Note that you can also customize both touch mode and mouse mode from the control menu bar.
- Look for the “<” icon at the bottom right of the screen. Select it to open the control menu bar.
- Choose the icon in the middle. It looks like a screen with the mouse pointer over it.
- Choose your preferred mode – Mouse or Touch.
- In the menu under the modes, you can select the following options to activate them:
- "Show remote cursor"
- "Directional keys"
- " Scrollbar "
- “Show clues”
When you're not sure how to perform a certain action on your device, click "Show Tips" to display a visual reminder of app commands.
In both modes, performing the right-click action is quick and easy.
How to Right Click in Touch Mode on Android
- Press and hold the screen with one finger. Be sure to hold your finger for at least a second.
- A context menu with the appropriate options appears. It means you have successfully completed the right click in touch mode.
Remember not to press too hard on the screen and keep your finger as stable as possible.
How to Right Click in Mouse Mode on Android
When you have activated mouse mode:
- Take two fingers and tap it on the screen.
- This registers as a right mouse click on a PC.
