YouTube collects data from its viewers. This information is useful for developing an understanding of the types of people who watch specific videos. If you want to know who is watching your videos, you've come to the right place.

In this article, we will explain how to use the YouTube Studio application from your computer. This will help you gain essential information about the people viewing your content.

Can you see who watched the YouTube video?

YouTube has a built-in analytics tool accessible from "YouTube Analytics". Via the "Audience" tab, you can find specific information about the people who watched the videos on your channel, including gender, location, and age range.

Age and gender

The information in this report tells you age groups, gender, and how long someone watched your video. By comparing the results with your other videos, you can see which groups of people enjoy your content the most.

This is valuable information if you want to appeal to a particular group. To find this report, sign in to your "YouTube Studio" account, then follow these steps:

  1. Enter a search for the video you want to know about.
  2. Click on the "Analytics" chart icon just below the result.
  3. Select the “Audience” tab at the top.
  4. Search for “Age and gender” and click on “SEE MORE”.
  5. At the top right, click the down arrow to select a date range.
  6. Click the "Filter" icon at the top left to filter the data if desired.
  7. When you're done, click the "X" in the top right to close the report.

Top geographies

This report tells you from which part of the world people are watching your video. You can explore this information even further and discover things like the most popular types of devices used to watch your content.

This is especially useful if you want to focus on growing a US-based audience, but your stats show most people are watching from another country. For example, you can find out why your videos attract more viewers from other countries.

The report can also be viewed by age group and gender, among other demographics. To find the "Top Geography" report via "YouTube Studio", here is what you need to do:

  1. Log in to your “YouTube Studio” account.
  2. Find the video you want to discover.
  3. Just below the result, click on the “Analytics” chart icon.
  4. Select the “Audience” tab at the top.
  5. Towards the bottom, in “Top geography”, click on “SEE MORE”.
  6. To select a date range, in the top right, click the down arrow.
  7. To filter the data, click on the "Filter" icon at the top left.
  8. When you're done, click the "X" in the top right to close the report.

When your viewers are on YouTube

This information tells you when your viewers are on the YouTube platform. You'll see the dates and times when the majority of them were online. Learning your viewer's usage patterns allows you to plan in advance the best times to upload your videos.

To view this report, do the following:

  1. Click on “Analytics”.
  2. Select the “Audience” tab at the top.
  3. Just below the “Audience” graph, the “When your viewers are on YouTube” graph will appear.

Now let's take a look at some of the YouTube reports to help you understand your viewer preferences.
