There are two reasons why it's important to make sure all your apps are updated regularly.
First, updates fix most bugs that grow in your apps. The second reason is that an update may provide you with new features to choose from. Leaving your apps without updates means you're missing out on important possibilities to make them more enjoyable.
Bravia smart TVs are no exception when it comes to frequently updating apps. Since these smart TVs come with a decent number of pre-installed apps, users find it difficult to update each app individually. To make this even more complicated, the number of applications increases with each download.
Fortunately, Sony has thought of this, giving users the ability to update their entire software with just a few clicks. This article will show you how to use these options.
Updating apps on your Bravia Smart TV
This section will show you how to easily update your Bravia smart TV apps in just a few seconds. Generally speaking, there are two methods you can use. The former allows your smart TV to update its apps automatically, and the latter requires a manual update. Both of these methods are quite easy to use.
Automatic application update
This feature allows its users to rest easy knowing that their smart TV will do all the work for them. Here's how you can use it.
- Press the Home button on your remote.
- Find apps and select the Google Play Store option.
- Select Settings.
- Look for the Auto-update apps feature and select it.
- Select the Automatically update apps at all times option.
What you need to know is that you won't have control over your device's memory, as all updates will happen automatically, as soon as they are available on the Google Play Store. In other words, your device memory will fill up in the background without you knowing the details.
Manual app update
If you want to update your Bravia Smart TV apps on your own and keep track of your Smart TV's memory, this method is for you.
Just like in the previous approach, press the Home button on your remote. Select the Google Play Store from Apps.
Select the My Apps option and you can now view all the apps stored on your Bravia smart TV, assuming they were downloaded from the Google Play Store. If you have downloaded third-party apps from unofficial websites, those apps will not be displayed here.
Once you've done that, all you have to do is select the Update All feature, and all of your apps will be updated to all newer versions available on the Google Store.
The nice thing about this method is that you will have full control over the updates. However, you will need to remember to update your apps and do it yourself.
Updating your Bravia Smart TV software
If you want to update your entire smart TV software, this section will show you everything you need to know.
First of all, this type of update goes beyond installed apps, because you are essentially upgrading the programming of your device. Most of these updates are done automatically, but Sony sometimes offers updates via digital cable signals or antennas.
So, if your smart TV software hasn't already told you to update its entire firmware and you know there's a newer version available, you'll need to search for it manually. Here's what you need to do.
- Press the Home button on your remote. If your device is running Android 8.0 (Oreo), select the Apps option.
- Select Help and find the System Software Update feature.
- Select this option, then click on the “Automatic software download” or “Automatic update check” function.
- Enable this option. Note: For other models, enter the settings and then select the Product Support or Customer Support function. From there, click on the Select automatic software update feature or the Automatic software download feature and enable it.
- To save changes, press the Enter button.
Some models offer a software update option, which makes things even easier, but the steps are usually almost the same.
These software updates take about 15 minutes or even longer.
Use the latest apps on your Bravia Smart TV
By following some of the methods mentioned earlier, you can always use the latest apps available for your smart TV. If you decide to opt for manual updates, be sure to fit them into your schedule. If you ignore new updates, you might miss some real treats.
