Available across the Atlantic since Friday, Facebook Home is currently only intended for owners of Galaxy S3, Note 2 and HTC One X and One X+.

In addition to the few terminals eligible for Facebook Home, the overlay is only available to American customers. It was without counting on the smart guys from the XDA and MoDaCo forum who quickly recovered and modified the application to skip the localization and make it compatible with a good number of Android machines.

Natively compatible smartphones

For owners of Galaxy S3, Note 2 and HTC One X and One X+, the installation procedure is particularly simple.

Make sure you have the latest versions of the Facebook apps, and Facebook Messenger on your smartphone. A little tour on Google Play will allow you to check if this is indeed the case.
Once the updates or installation have been completed, download the Facebook Home application to your PC.

Connect your smartphone to the PC via USB and drag the Facebook Home .apk into your mobile's memory. On the PC side, it's over, let's move on to the smartphone.

If you do not have a native file manager, go to Google Play, the Astro app is free and is effective.
With the file manager, explore the contents of your memory and install the Facebook Home application.

Smartphones not supported

If your machine is not part of the list mentioned above, you must uninstall the Facebook apps present on your smartphone (Facebook and Facebook Mesenger).
To do this, go to Settings

Once the applications are uninstalled, download the three apps Facebook app, Facebook Messenger, Facebook Home on your PC.
Repeat the same procedure as for compatible smartphones, install the three .apk files in the smartphone's memory via the PC via USB and use (or download) the file manager from the smartphone to install them.

First the Facebook app ( katana), then Messenger ( orca) and finish with the Home app.

Uninstall Facebook Home

Not convinced by the somewhat intrusive overlay? Direction Settings Home (from the application launcher or the Menu key of your Android smartphone), deactivate Facebook Home and log out.

In the native Android menu, direction Settings

Facebook Home: settings and security, it's here.
